TOPPING A50S - square powerhouse
With the A50s, Topping offers a high-quality headphone amplifier or preamplifier with both balanced and unbalanced connections. Its optimised circuitry, and very good audio components allow for precise, detailed and musical reproduction. The A50s is also designed to be versatile and adaptable to most headphones and earphones on the market, including power-hungry models. With a whopping 3500mW x2 @32Ω of power, there's plenty in reserve for that.

Ultra-high-performance NFCA amplifier module
At the heart of the A50s is an NFCA (Nested Feedback Composite Amplifier) module, identical to the one in the brand's flagship A90. Its hybrid current/voltage architecture, combined with Ultra High Gain Feedback (UHGF) technology, provides excellent DC and AC performance. A high output current allows the amplifier to drive all types of headphones. An extremely low noise floor of 0.3µV, a dynamic range of 144dB and the absence of background noise also allow the A50s to drive the most sensitive EMIs with ease.
Robust aluminium housing
The A50s' high-quality components are integrated into a solid aluminium frame that has been CNC-machined with high precision. The enclosure is extremely robust and also provides excellent thermal conductivity to effectively dissipate heat from the unit's power supply and AOPs.
Balanced and unbalanced
Although the A50s has only one unbalanced input, it has balanced amplifier circuitry. It can therefore be used with unbalanced headphones on its 6.35 mm jack output, or balanced headphones on its 4.4 mm jack output.
Adjustable gain
The topping amplifier offers a gain setting of 0 dB or 6 dB in unbalanced mode, or 6 dB and 12 dB in balanced mode. This setting, along with the extremely low noise of 0.3µVrms, allows the A50s to adapt to both sensitive EMIs and headphones that require a high energy input.
An excellent preamplifier
Even though the main function of the A50s is headphone amplification, it is also a very good preamplifier with excellent performance. In preamplification mode, the output impedance is only 20Ω, ensuring compatibility with many devices.
Automatic switching
When not connected to headphones or earphones, the A50s automatically switches to pre-amplifier mode, with the amplified signal output via the RCA output on the rear panel. If, on the other hand, headphones are connected to the 6.35 mm or 4.4 mm jack outputs, the unit immediately switches to headphone amplifier function.
